A Garden of Love

This is the title of one of Abby's books but it does have relevance to this post, I promise. Recently we have started our 2009 garden and I'm really excited. In the first go around last summer we had lots of success and even though it is difficult for me to get down in the garden and do the work, so far so good this year. Chuck was able to double the size of the garden from last summer thanks to church members allowing us to borrow their tiller, plus the truck to get it here since our car doesn't really haul things. I got lots of little seedlings started and as the ground dries out a little more from the massive rain we've gotten, more and more are making their way into the ground. I'm really optimistic and can't wait to see everything grow and be able to enjoy it. Here's what we've got: tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, green beans, cucumber, butternut squash (this will be used for baby food, we don't care for squash), lettuce, corn, cantaloupe, and watermelon. We also have blackberry, raspberry, and blueberry bushes that are beginning to bloom! It will be fun to be able to harvest all of these treats from our own yard and to let Abby enjoy the berries without having to go somewhere to get them, particularly with a newborn this summer.

In other news, VBS is quickly approaching and I'm in charge this year. In an attempt to reach more children I've made some changes from usual (gasp!) and have gotten mostly positive feedback but a few comments have made me nervous. Pray that God would provide a great harvest for His Kingdom!
