Like a Furnace...?

Today was um, interesting. After the third successive night of Abby waking up several times and Daddy being totally unacceptable as a comforter, I was exhausted this morning. Too bad it was the morning that the little girl decided to sleep in 2 more hours after I got her back down the last time. Too bad because I had to be up and at 'em to make it to a doctor's visit and run a myriad of errands.
First stop - doctor's office. Running a few minutes late because I evidently had trouble remembering what time I needed to leave the house and then ran in to traffic because "road work" was being performed on a bridge ahead of me. "Road work" constituted cleaning debris away from the sides of the road (good idea) and removing excess sand that was put down for the last ice storm. I was a little put out at first but got over it when I saw there wasn't actually much of a delay. I really really hate being late to things. Anyway, once in and visiting with the doctor, he was chatting and mentioned something about my weight gain since the last visit, which was fine and he was pleased with. I told him baby has been hungry. :) He laughed and said "yeah, you're probably kind of like a furnace now, huh?" Huh? Goofy comment and maybe he was tired too!
On a totally different note, I practically skipped out of Target later on with the awesome deals I scored. Baby wipes were on sale AND I had 4 coupons so I got to stock up for way cheap! Then as I was about to leave the baby section (I of course had to walk each aisle to see if there was anything else I might need) I spied a small clearance section. It was calling my name! I saw some Pull-Ups for 1/2 price, and only one box was the small size that my Thumbelina can wear so I picked that up too. She is potty trained during waking hours but sleeping time is hit or miss so that's why the excitement over the score. There was a small disappointment in this because I knew I had a coupon at home that would have saved me $2 or $3 more but I got over it. Yay for sales, coupons, and clearance!!!

Yay for coupons! But more than that....yay for potty trained! How in the WORLD did you already make that happen?! Maggie is NO where close to this unfortunately :(

Ha ha! Courtney, I don't know. She seemed interested in following me when I went so I bought a potty for her and put it in the bathroom for her to do with what she wished for about a month. She liked sitting on it with her clothes or diaper on and then I decided to just give it a try. The first day involved LOTS of wet spots on the carpet, etc. but I just took her every 20-30 mintues for the first 5-7 days and had her try. She began to catch on (might have helped that I had to potty frequently myself, being preggo - ha!) and after 3 or 4 weeks I was totally confident going places with her and being accident-free. It's bliss now! Target has a basic potty for $10 - that's what I got and also gave her gummy bears for going (1 for #1, 2 for #2). My mom seemed really impressed the last time they were here. She and Chuck seemed a little skeptical of Abby being trained before she was 2. Go Abby!

We have a little potty that has been in our bathroom for almost 6 months. She knows what it is. She pretends to use it. She follows me in the bathroom every time (unless I lock the door behind me!) ha! I think the thing is that I can't see her telling me that she needs to go. If we ask her if she has a wet or dirty diaper, she always says no. The other hard part is that I'm not home everyday...and I'm pretty sure that Michael isn't up for taking her every 30 minutes to the potty. I don't know - maybe when I have a good bit of time off from work @ Christmas, I can do it then - HA! No, no worries...it won't be THAT long. Sure would be nice to be rid of the cost of diapers though!

She still has to have a bottle to go to sleep...but we also know that this is her comfort and her therapist said to not push anything with her. She'll get rid of the bottle and get potty trained when she feels comfortable with it. So, that's what I'm trying to do.

Way to go Abby!

Well, the first day of potty training when Chuck came home and I told him how often we needed to take her he was like "uh, maybe we should try this some other time." Maggie isn't the only 2-year-old who needs a bottle as a comfort and I'm no expert, but from reading your blog she sure sounds like she's doing remarkably well! Whether she potty trains at 2 or 5, you guys are doing great! I just had the opportunity and thought I'd give it a go. :)
