Big Girl Bed

Yesterday, Chuck picked up Abby's big girl bed, brought it home, and set it up with her help, of course. She was so excited as the boxes, mattress, and boxspring came into the house. She kept squealing "big girl bed!" It was the cutest thing and we laughed so hard. Last night was the test-run of sleeping in the new bed and she did great, except for that fall at 3am. I checked on her, like I do every night, as we were headed to bed and she looked so cute and tiny in the new bed. There was a brief thought to put a chair up by the headboard to block that open space so she couldn't fall out there but then I thought "Come on, the guardrail is there, she won't wiggle to that small space and fall." Well, Mommy was wrong! At 3am I woke up to her crying and went to check on her, but where was she? Not in the bed where I left her hours before. Nope, sitting on the floor facing the bed directly down from that space by the headboard was my little big girl crying away. As I picked her up I realized she wasn't really awake and since our rooms share a wall and I never heard a thud, I think she just slid on down in her sleep. Anyway, kid back in bed, chair immediately in place, and 4 more hours of sleep for the princess (not for me of course, with #2 taking up so much room). For now the crib is still in Abby's room and she likes to get in and out of it but we decided to begin the transition now so that hopefully it isn't a big deal when the prince comes. Guess we'll see. I'm so thankful that we were able to get her a bed we like and that will last her until she is in college. God provides!

so glad that the first night was a good success (other than the fall!) at least, she slept in it. it took maggie a few nights of sleeping on the floor wailing before she realized that the big girl bed wasn't so bad after all!
